About Consumer Electronics Show (CES)
CES, or Consumer Electronics Show, is the largest tech event in the world. At this event, the biggest brands do business, meet new partners and showcase the latest products. This is how companies grow their brand, build partnerships and expand their network and most importantly, the latest technologies are ready to take the market by storm. You will get a sneak peek of the groundbreaking products and technologies that will be released this year.
CES is owned and produced by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA)®. CES features companies such as manufacturers, developers, suppliers and more focused on consumer technology. During this trade show, the world's leading leaders in this field discuss the most relevant issues in this sector.
Start of CES
The first CES took place in June 1967 in New York. Since then, thousands of products have been announced at this annual show, such as OLED technologies and 4K UHD. This year's CES will take place from January 5 to 7, 2022 in Las Vegas. This year, the event will last three days instead of four due to the current corona rules.
You will find the most important announcements for 2022 in the field of image and sound for the following brands:
Samsung
Neo QLEDLast year Samsung introduced the miniLED backlight that was given the name Neo QLED . A major advancement that is difficult to surpass. Or did they succeed this year? First of all, they managed to control the brightness of the LEDs with 2 more bits than last year. The Neo Quantum Processor now effortlessly displays 14-bit HDR images. In addition, this processor uses the new Shape Adaptive Light technology. This technology analyzes lines, shapes and surfaces to which the miniLEDs adapt and an even better image quality is created. An AI algorithm called Real Depth Enhancer mimics the human eye and distinguishes the foreground from the background, creating extra depth.
In recent years, all types of screens have become extra important. We spend more time at home and we look at a screen more and more often, which is not always pleasant for the eyes. Although you can easily set the screen to your own preferences, it is of course more convenient when this happens automatically. Samsung introduces EyeComfort for the NeoQLED models. The built-in light sensor analyses the incidence of light and adjusts the image accordingly. This makes the colours warmer in the evening, which is much nicer for the eyes and for a good night's sleep!
QD-OLEDSamsung was expected to present the first QD-OLED models at CES, but this did not happen. Samsung will release models with the new panel this year. QD-OLED uses blue OLEDs in combination with quantum dots (green and red). This technique makes an even larger color range achievable and increases brightness. In addition to this new panel, Samsung has developed a new technique to minimize reflections. The OLED pixels have an optimized structure that limits reflections. Because the competitor also uses the term QD-OLED, Samsung will call it Samsung OLED . The S95B series consists of 55- and 65-inch models that have the new Samsung OLED. With this new line, Samsung is taking a big step in OLED. View the line-up here.
SoundThe sound of the Neo QLED is slightly more powerful thanks to the 3 Layer OTS Pro. The OTS is also expanded with the Human Tracking Sound . The processor recognizes where the people or characters are in the picture and outputs the sound via the multi-channel speakers from the right place. This feature is included in all models from Q70B onwards. The 2022 Neo QLED TVs support Dolby Atmos , which is a big step forward.
Smart HubAll 2022 Samsung TVs come with a new Smart Hub that should make it even easier to switch between media and apps. In addition, the Smart Calibration is a new addition. With this function you can easily set the TV to your wishes, so that you have the best picture and sound quality!
LG
'The Better Life You Deserve.' That is LG's slogan for 2022. The entire OLED and LCD line-up has been renewed. No super-big innovations, but such improvements that make the products just a little bit better than last year's models. LG dropped the OLED EX technology at the end of 2021, but nothing new has been announced about this to date. LG has already come out with the complete line-up of OLED and LCD-LED models.
LG OLED 2022The OLED EVO technology that we know from the 2021 G1 models can be found on the G2 and C2 models this year. The C2, G2 and Z2 series are all equipped with the new α9 Gen 5 processor. This drives the Brightness Booster in the G2 series to provide even more brightness. In addition, this processor uses deep learning to improve image quality and show even more depth by better separating the foreground and background. LG is mainly introducing new inch sizes this year. For example, the G series is being expanded with an 83-inch and the very first 97-inch OLED TV.
The A2 and B2 models are equipped with the α7 Gen 5 processor. The A2 models have a 50Hz panel and the higher models 100Hz. All new OLED TVs are equipped with full HDR support (Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG) and Dolby Atmos support. A new feature is that from the Game Optimizer menu you can select and switch between game preferences and display presets. This menu also gives access to the new Dark Room Mode, which automatically adjusts the brightness of the screen in the dark.
LG QNED 2022This year, five series of the QNED will be launched on the market. These models have a regular LCD screen, but the backlight consists of thousands of mini LEDs that can be controlled in groups. This technology ensures higher contrast and better brightness. Of the five series, only four have the minLED technology with local dimming. The missing one here is the QNED80/81 series, which has edge lit LED backlighting. On the QNED models, you can now easily select game preferences and display presets from the Game Optimizer menu and switch between them. The eye-catcher among the QNEDs is the 99 series. The TVs in this series are equipped with approximately 2500 dimming zones, have a 100Hz panel and have 8K resolution. Furthermore, all models have full HDR support and Dolby Atmos support.
Sony
Sony has the big scoop in the television field this year. They are the very first to present the Quantum Dot and OLED technology together, called QD-OLED . Samsung will also announce its models at CES, but has not yet presented a QD-OLED TV. The new A95K series will be equipped with this new combination, which provides even greater brightness and a wider and more vibrant color range. The 65-inch of this series won an Innovation Award at CES 2022.
Bravia XRThe powerful Cognitive Processor XR remains at the heart of the renewed Sony 2022 series . This processor understands what the human brain pays attention to and adjusts image and sound accordingly. This creates an extra realistic listening and viewing experience. This Bravia XR processor is present in the following series:
- Sony Z9K
- Sony A95K
- Sony X95K
- Sony A90K
- Sony A80K
- Sony X90K
Sony is also introducing Netflix Adaptive Calibrated Mode. This will adjust Netflix content to the ambient light. Furthermore, the OLED models are equipped with Acoustic Surface Audio+ and the LCD LED models with Acoustic Multi Audio, which adjust the audio output to the position of the sound on the screen. You will also be able to purchase a Bravia Cam in 2022. This camera is specially made for the new Sony televisions and registers where the viewers are sitting and adjusts the image display and sound accordingly. This new product also won an Innovation Award during CES.
