Sony Announces Modular MicroLED Displays

Sony introduced its first microled screens during CES2021 under the name, Chrystal LED. The screens are modular, this means that you can merge the separate screens into one gigantic screen. Two models will be on the market, the C-series and the B-series.

The C-series is all about achieving high contrast, with a ratio of 1,000,000:1 being mentioned. In addition, the displays are equipped with a 'deep black coating', making them suitable for use in showrooms, lobbies and studios. The maximum brightness is in line with the brightness of OLED TVs, 800 cd/m². The B-series has a higher peak brightness, 1800 cd/m². This makes the screen mainly intended for filmmakers. The screens have a matte anti-reflection coating. The contrast is therefore lower than that of the C-series.

Both models are powered by an X1 Processor. The Chrystal LED displays support HLG, HDR10, 120fps and 3D. Those interested will have to dig deep into their pockets. The prices are not yet known, but if you look at the price of Samsung's microled TV , you can also expect a hefty price tag for Sony's screen.
